Chris Hughton has told Albion fans he is “very confident” he will have the squad he wants in time for the new Championship season.

But skipper Gordon Greer could miss the next two friendlies as he recovers from an injury suffered on the pre-season trip to the Alps.

Albion are gearing up for tests at Crawley and Aberdeen in the next week after Saturday’s 0-0 draw at Lewes.

Hughton kept most of his frontline players out of the Dripping Pan line-up and admits there is still work to do in terms of recruitment.

He told The Argus: “It’s a work in progress.

“The recruitment department are working very, very hard to bring in what we can and it is ongoing.

“We know the areas where we want to bring players in.

“When you have to bring in a lot of players, it is more difficult to get the players you want and the timing and so on. But generally you get there.

“Sometimes you can do it quicker than others but I’m still very confident we will bring in the numbers we want.”

Greer’s early withdrawal at Swiss club Meyrin nine days ago with an adductor problem was initially described as purely precautionary but he has not appeared in either of the two subsequent games.

Hughton said: “It was determined a couple of days later it would take a little bit longer.

“We need to make sure because of the area where it is.

“But we are very confident he will be fine.

“We hope he will be available in a week, a week and a bit probably.”
