Albion are out of the Capital One Cup - after blowing the chances to survive a tough second round test.
Second-half goals from Milan Lalkovic and Rico Henry sent a lively Walsall side to a 2-1 success over the much-changed Seagulls at the Banks's Stadium.
Jake Forster-Caskey won and converted the penalty from which Albion went into a 39-minute lead.
But Chris O'Grady sent a spot kick over the bar when he had a chance to restore the lead on 71 minutes after being hauled down by James O'Connor.
The outstanding Lalkovic had just sent Walsall level with an explosive finish from Tom Bradshaw's precise cutback.
And jet-heeled left-back Rico Henry hit the 86th-minute winner from another low cross as Walsall's widemen impressed.
Rohan Ince blasted a great chance fashioned by Solly March over the bar in the second half.
