Albion have been linked with a move for Boca Juniors striker Jonathan Calleri.
Hector Heredia, a presenter on Cronica TV in Buenos Aires, last night tweeted: "Today there was a meeting between directors of Brighton and Boca, who asked for 13 million dollars for the goalscorer. The English offered nine.
"In the meeting on the Boca side was Juan Simon (general manager). 11 million would probably be enough."
The Argus understands the figures quoted by Heredia are wide of the mark and no agreement has been reached.
Calleri, 21, has also been linked with Stoke.
Albion are spreading their scouting network far and wide in the quest to strengthen Chris Hughton's attacking options before the transfer window shuts on Tuesday.
