Liam Rosenior has been tipped to make a seamless switch from right to left – if Albion get bad news on Gaetan Bong.

The Seagulls have yet to confirm if, or for how long, their former Wigan left-back will be sidelined after going down with a knee problem against Preston.

But fans have been told they have a great stand-in among their ranks in the versatile Rosenior.

Former Hull City defender Peter Swan, who watches the Tigers home and away for BBC radio, told The Argus he was impressed by Rosenior’s defensive work at left-back when he was with them in the Premier League.

Swan said: “You couldn’t tell the difference. He was a very similar player on the left or right.

“As far as defending goes, he was excellent. It was never a problem going from the right to the left “Unless you studied him really closely you would never know he was mainly right foot, even when he played on the left.

“Going forward it was not really a factor because he was never the best crosser of a ball from the right flank so you didn’t lose anything.

“The main thing is he is a good defender on both sides of the pitch.”

If Bong is ruled out, Albion could look to the market and sign their EIGHTH on-loan left-back in as many seasons.

Rosenior has played on the left once for the Seagulls, in their Capital One Cup defeat at Walsall.

Whoever plays in that role faces a testing afternoon at Reading on Saturday.

The Royals’ 11-goal top scorer Nick Blackman has been operating on the right of an attacking three this season and the hosts could also bring in right winger Garath McCleary to add attacking threat.
