Sam Baldock says the spirit in Albion's promotion-pushing squad is as good as he has encountered in his career.

The Seagulls responded to relegated Charlton's equaliser within three minutes, Jiri Skalak scoring his second goal in as many games in yesterday's vital 3-1 victory at The Valley.

Baldock said: "Winning is all that matters at this time of the season. We weren't at our best but managed to pick up the three points.

Albion show their togetherness as they celebrate Baldock's goal

"We didn't under-estimate Charlton at all. They have some very talented players so we weren't surprised. They played some good stuff.

"A lot has been made of our spirit and it's up there with the best I've ever come across.

"That tight-knit group feel is something we are proud of and we want to achieve great things together."

Baldock marked his return to the starting line-up following a recurrence of hamstring trouble with Albion's early opener, his fourth goal of the season, to the delight of over 3,000 away fans and 1,500 more watching a beam back of the match at the Amex.

He said: "I'm pleased but it's not about individuals at the moment, it's strictly about the team and the club.

"The way the fans were behind us speaks volumes. It will be massive for the whole area if we can achieve what we deserve.

"Every 1% we can get we'll take and the fans have been brilliant from the first minute of the first game."
