Jiri Skalak has thanked Albion’s fans for their backing – on one of the strangest days of his career.
The Czech international was cheered off by a packed away end after his crucial goal in the 3-1 win at Charlton.
His strike helped turn a match disrupted by fans’ protests firmly back in the Seagulls’ favour.
Skalak, who speaks limited English, was unaware Charlton supporters were planning to demonstrate against the club’s owner and chief executive.
He said: “I didn’t know before the match the protest was going to happen. This is new to me.
“Then it’s difficult because suddenly we had five minutes when we didn’t play and we just had to focus on keeping warm.
“But we did it – and our fans were amazing. The best. Fantastic.
“I’m so glad to get an important goal for them. Two matches, two goals - and I’ll try to continue in this way.”
