Gordon Greer wants to end Albion’s play-off heartbreak – and enjoy his proudest moment with the club.

The centre-back believes promotion to the Premier League would top anything in his six seasons as Seagulls skipper.

He has urged team-mates to see the end-of-season knockout, which kicks off away to Sheffield Wednesday tomorrow, as “a great opportunity” rather than a burden.

Greer, a beaten semi-finalist with Albion in 2013 and 2014, said: “The play-offs have not been a great experience since I’ve been at Brighton.

“Going up would definitely be my proudest moment in a Brighton and Hove Albion shirt.

“It’s the aim of the club to get to the Premier League. I’m sure it’s the aim of a lot of clubs in the Championship to get there.

“But the infrastructure here is fantastic – the training ground, the stadium, all the staff, the players.

“It’s just about us trying to get it right on the park and hopefully we can do it.”

Greer used memories of Albion’s last-gasp play-off qualification two years ago to raise morale among a squad distraught at their near-miss for automatic promotion.

He said: “I told them of my own experiences and how we scored that last-minute goal at Nottingham Forest to get into the play-offs and being so delighted.

“We have got another great opportunity now where we have still got a chance to go up.

“We’ve got Sheffield Wednesday over two legs, which will be tough games but we are still in there and still fighting.”
