STEVE SIDWELL has revealed he would have no problem in signing for Albion in the Championship.

The midfielder is assessing his options as he completes a decade with Premier League clubs.

Sidwell, 33, is out of contract at Stoke City but relished his three months on loan with the Seagulls and is open to a more permanent return.

He helped Reading win promotion from the Championship in 2005-06 and has spent the subsequent ten years with top-tier clubs.

Asked by The Argus if he would mind dropping a division, he replied: “Of course not. We will have to wait and see.

“For me, my time back has been brilliant.

“Stoke was a great spell in my career, not playing-wise but in meeting new players and working under the manager.

“Coming here has been a breath of fresh air, seeing how a lot of the players work and the manager. It has been an eye-opener but I’ve enjoyed it.”

Albion are preparing to announce which players have been offered new deals for next season.

Those out of contract – subject to any trigger clauses which have not been made public – include Bruno, Gordon Greer, Bobby Zamora and, more significantly for Sidwell, central midfielder Andrew Crofts.

Albion need to add competition and support for Beram Kayal and Dale Stephens.

Sidwell was by no means a regular contributor during his loan stint.

But he signed off by making a strong case for a contract with his performance at home to Sheffield Wednesday.

He said: “It was good but it takes the gloss off when you don’t win.

“Personally playing well is great but it doesn’t count for anything when you come off the pitch and you haven’t achieved what you set out to achieve.

“But I’ve enjoyed my time and, if I can extend it, fantastic.”
