Albion have made another addition to their under-21s squad, signing defender Sam Adekugbe on loan for the season from MLS side Vancouver Whitecaps.

The Canadian international left-back impressed manager Chris Hughton when he trained with the Seagulls last season.

Hughton said: "We know all about Sam and his qualities from his time with us last December.

"He initially began with our under-21 group, but quickly showed he was capable of stepping up to train with our first team.

"He will join the under-21 squad and his challenge, along with others, is to make that step up into the first team squad."

Adekugbe, 21, has dual citizenship, having been born in London before moving to Canada when he was 11.

He joined Whitecaps in 2011, signed a senior contract in 2013 and made his MLS debut in October that year.

After representing Canada at youth level, Adekugbe made his senior international debut in 2015.

He has won three caps, in two friendly matches and a 2018 World Cup qualifier against Belize.

Adekugbe's move, subject to international clearance, follows the signings for the under-21s of Fleetwood right-back Tyler Forbes and Motherwell centre-half Ben Hall.
