Glenn Murray has been wound up by claims he has rejoined Albion for an easy ride.

The striker says he has returned to feast on goalscoring service from the Seagulls’ array of wingers, not because it is a convenient move.

Murray scored twice on his first home appearance for the club for five years since re-signing on loan from Bournemouth in Friday’s 3-0 victory against Nottingham Forest.

He told The Argus: “It was a good homecoming, a delight to get two goals, but it was all about getting the first win of the season and getting kick-started.

“I’ve said from the beginning, they know I live local and everyone has viewed this move as a content thing. ‘It’s easy for him, he only has to drive down the road to train’.

“That’s far from the truth. I looked at this team and saw great wingers, which is what I’ve always needed to score goals. That’s the whole reason I came, the set-up of the team.”

Anthony Knockaert opened the scoring against Forest before fellow front men Tomer Hemed and Sam Baldock supplied goals for Murray, back at the club since early July after Albion’s protracted bid to land him again.

“I had a good pre-season, got into the club nice and early, so I’ve worked out those partnerships and who is good at what,” Murray said.

“I’ve had plenty of time to settle in and hopefully we’ll see that come to fruition throughout the season.

“Anthony was the difference between a stalemate first half-an-hour. He just shaded it for us and gave us a huge lift going into the second half.

“Both Tomer and Sam set me up. Hopefully I’ll pay them back and Tomer will get off the mark sooner rather than later.”

Albion are among nine clubs unbeaten in the Championship after two games ahead of Rotherham’s visit tomorrow night and Saturday’s trip to Murray’s former loan club Reading.

“The games are coming thick and fast,” he said. “We’re off to a good start and we’ve got to maintain that.”
