Ollie Norwood has told Albion fans he can only improve – after throwing the battle for midfield places wide open.

Norwood hopes to take on previous club Reading as the Seagulls take their unbeaten record to the Madejski on Saturday.

He was pleased with his first Championship start for the Seagulls as they beat Rotherham 3-0 on Tuesday but he reckons that was just a start as he competes for places with Dale Stephens, Beram Kayal and Steve Sidwell.

The Northern Ireland international told The Argus: “There is a lot more to come from me.

“I enjoyed it on Tuesday. I got a lot of time on the ball and played some good passes.

“I was heavily involved but there is definitely more to come. The fans will see the best of me.”

Norwood would love to help beat the club he left a fortnight ago in what came as a shock move to Reading fans. But there are no hard feelings with the club he served for two years.

He said: “I’m looking forward to it. I had two very good seasons there, personally, and I have nothing but good things to say about the club.

“I really enjoyed my time there. I had a great relationship with everybody who worked at the football club from the cleaners at the training ground to the chef, the kitman all the way through to the manager.

“The fans as well. I maybe apologise for not saying ‘Thank you’ to the fans but, as a person, I quickly move on. I respect the fans there, I respect the football club.”

Chris Hughton left out both Kayal and Sidwell on Tuesday but said it was to help keep them fresh.

He added: “At the moment we have got good options.”
