BOSS Chris Hughton has backed Bruno to keep on surprising him by continuing his ever-present run in a hectic Championship burst for Albion.

The veteran Spanish right-back has recovered from a groin niggle to receive the all-clear for Barnsley’s visit tomorrow.

It will be Bruno’s 57th consecutive league appearance for the Seagulls. The sequence could stretch to 59 at Ipswich next Tuesday and Sheffield Wednesday four days later, when Bruno celebrates his 36th birthday.

Hughton told The Argus: “He is on the back of a season where he hardly missed a game. There are always things we consider when games come quickly and with Bruno it’s understandable, because of his age.

“He surprised a few of us last season and if he can continue doing that it won’t be a problem but it is something we have to be conscious of.”

Meanwhile, Hughton will resist the temptation to hurry back England under-21 attacker Solly March. He has been pencilled in for his latest comeback in the under-23s in the Premier League Cup against Nottingham Forest at the Lancing training ground a week tomorrow (2pm) following a minor shin problem which has slowed his recovery from nine months out with cruciate knee ligament damage.

Hughton said: “We are working at the moment on getting the balance right. It’s important that we have him back to stay, not that he’s back and then we’ve got to take him out of the fold for a few weeks.

“We’d like to bring him back in and be a mainstay of the squad.”
