Chris Hughton felt Albion deserved their point against Aston Villa – but no more than that.

The Seagulls extended their unbeaten run to 11 games as Glenn Murray’s 45th minute strike secured a 1-1 draw having trailed to Nathan Baker’s header.

Albion go six points clear of third place ahead of today’s matches.

They had to defend strongly as Villa pushed hard for the win in the final quarter but Jamie Murphy almost grabbed a home win when his shot was well saved.

Asked if a draw was a fair result, Hughton told The Argus: “I think so. Possibly the game might have been a bit different if we had scored first.

“I thought their goal was against the run of play, not that we were that good but I didn’t think they were significantly better than us. I was really delighted when we got the equaliser because it was one we really deserved on the balance of play.

“We showed character to get back in the game and Glenn’s goal was a super goal.

“I thought early in the second half, if there was one team that was going to go on and win it, it was going to be us bthey were better at the end and what you are left with is a fair result.

“It’s two good teams. We are at home but you look at the quality they have got.”
