Dale Stephens has branded Albion’s draw at strugglers Cardiff ‘not good enough’.

But the midfielder expects them to regain their zip at home to Leeds on Friday evening as they get another chance to overtake Newcastle at the top of the table.

The Seagulls missed out on leap-frogging the Toon following a drab 0-0 deadlock in Wales.

Stephens, pictured left, told The Argus: “On the whole I think a point is not bad but performance wise it was disappointing. We kept it well first half but didn’t create many chances.

“We had a few more chances second half but overall it’s not what we are used to and it probably wasn’t good enough.

“They kept the pitch dry, made it difficult for us to play. We expected long balls and long throws. It made it a difficult game for us but we didn’t do what we do best.

“It’s one of those games you have got to put to the back of your mind. It’s not important to be top of the league now, we’ve got to battle on.

“It’s important we stay in the leading pack and, hopefully, come the end of the season we’ll do enough.”

Garry Monk’s Leeds, 2-0 winners against Aston Villa at Elland Road, have moved up to fourth, within seven points of Albion.

Stephens added: “He’s transformed them a little bit. I watched the game against Liverpool (last week) and thought they played very well.

“We’re at home and we are still full of confidence. It will be up to us to create the atmosphere and go back to doing what we do best.”
