Chris Hughton wants to get Albion promoted for the sake of the club and his players.
They are more important goals for the manager than his own return to the Premier League.
Hughton has been in the top flight with promotion rivals Newcastle and Norwich.
He told The Argus: “Of course, every manager wants to manage at the highest level, but it’s not the biggest driving factor for me.
“The biggest driving factor is trying to reward this club for employing me and for the group of players I have to play at the highest level.
“They are the things that drive me on most. I have been around for a while, mainly as a coach, and they are more my burning ambitions.
“The group of lads have been excellent for me. I want the best for them and the best for the club.”
Albion are two points ahead of Newcastle at the top of the Championship with a game in hand.
