Jiri Skalak’s part in Albion’s promotion push has come under scrutiny.

Former Seagulls defender Adam Virgo believes Solly March and Jamie Murphy offer more as wingers.

Skalak was replaced by Murphy early in the second half of Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at Preston, while March remained on the bench.

The Czech international has been substituted in each of the last three Championship games he has started.

Virgo, now a TV pundit and newspaper columnist, tweeted: “Certainly think Brighton have better wingers than Skalak who should be playing. Hasn’t been consistent enough when starting for me.”

Virgo added in response to a follower: “You would think March and Murphy offer you more on the ball in the final third. Just think effects side when he starts.”

Kazenga LuaLua, fifth choice winger behind Anthony Knockaert, Skalak, March and Murphy, was loaned to QPR last week for the rest of the season.

Albion find out their FA Cup fourth round opponents tonight.

They visit the winners of the third round replay at Sincil Bank between National League leaders Lincoln and Championship rivals Ipswich at the end of January.
