Albion will be without top scorer Glenn Murray against Cardiff tomorrow night after the FA rejected the Seagulls' appeal against his red card.

An independent FA panel has rejected the club's wrongful dismissal claim.

Murray was sent-off by referee Stuart Attwell in Friday's win against Sheffield Wednesday at the Amex for blocking a Glen Loovens shot with his hands.

Albion's written submission, compiled by chief executive Paul Barber and secretary Derek Allan in consultation with Hughton and Murray, used video clips to support their argument.

Hughton said: "His (Murray's) hands were up to protect his face. Also, we felt David Stockdale was in a good enough position behind him to potentially save the shot as well, so on those grounds we felt we had a good case."

Albion will now be without 15-goal Murray for a league game for the first time this season.

Sam Baldock was due to resume training today after missing the match against Wednesday with a calf injury. It is unclear whether he will be fit to partner Tomer Hemed, the only other recognised striker Albion have available.

Sheffield Wednesday pair Steven Fletcher and Sam Hutchinson, sent-off subsequently by Attwell in Albion's eventful 2-1 victory, have respectively received three and two-match bans for their offences.
