Sam Baldock has played down the importance of his 100th career goal – and enjoyed another Albion win.

Baldock struck at the near post to put his side 2-0 up early in the second half as they beat Burton 4-1.

It took him to a century in league and cup, comprising goals for MK Dons, West Ham, Bristol City and now the Seagulls.

He said: “My 100th career goal? Yes, I believe so. I stopped counting during slow patches in my first couple of years at the club.

“I had been stuck in the 90s for a while but I haven’t dwelt on it because then I become anxious and uptight.

“I want to play freely. I’m not a selfish player. I didn’t want personal goals to overtake the goals and what’s needed for the team.

“It’s not a big issue for me. Obviously it was pleasing for me to get there but it would be trumped a hundred times if we were to get promoted.”

Baldock, troubled by a calf injury of late, has scored on three of his last four home starts, across a period of almost three months.

He said: “The old cliché that the three points are more important is very true here.

“We focus now on Ipswich. I’ve already asked one of the coaches how they play and what formation they are opting for at the minute.

“We are strictly focussed on that one now.

“I felt really good out there and hopefully I can maintain that up to the end of the season.”
