Huddersfield manager David Wagner believes his side sent out a promotion statement in their stoppage-time victory against Rotherham, writes Frank Murphy.
The Terriers are in red-hot form, winning their last five games, and sit only four points adrift of Albion.
Wagner believes that the 3-2 win against Rotherham, while the Seagulls drew with Ipswich, was a big statement of intent from his side.
Defender Tommy Smith snatched the points with a fine finish.
Huddersfield recently beat Albion 3-1 and Leeds 2-1, both at home.
Wagner said: “For me this is a big statement for what we delivered today. Not Brighton at home or Leeds at home this. This was a statement.
“To come back twice, score in stoppage time against an opponent where everyone expects to win. To play well was important, it was a perfect night for us.”
Albion face a tricky trip to Barnsley on Saturday and will be looking to put more daylight between themselves and Huddersfield, who host Manchester City in the FA Cup fifth round.
