Huddersfield blew their big chance to turn up heat on Albion and Newcastle tonight – in spectacular style.

David Wagner saw his men go down 4-0 at Bristol City and lose key midfielder Jonathan Hogg.

They remain six points behind the top two with all three sides having played 37 matches.

Hogg was stretchered off with what looked a serious neck injury after only five minutes.

Play was held up for almost 15 minutes but it did not interrupt City’s bright start.

Lee Tomlin rounded keeper Danny Ward for the opener after poor defending by Christopher Schindler and Mark Hudson.

The second came deep into 14 added minutes when Tammy Abraham struck at the near post from David Cotterill’s cross.

Big defender Aden Flint wrapped up the points after the break and Cotterill added a spot kick.

Wagner’s men have successive home games after the international break, against Burton and Norwich.

Former Huddersfield goalkeeper Matt Glennon said: “It has been a horror show!”

Goals from Yann Kermorgant and Adrian Popa gave Reading a 2-0 win at Sheffield Wednesday
