Solly March has set his sights on playing at the European Under-21 Championship finals after scoring on his England comeback.

The Albion winger curled home a sensational effort from 25 yards to help England secure a comfortable 4-0 victory in their friendly against Denmark in Randers yesterday. It was the 22-year-old from Hailsham’s first goal for his country and reignited his hopes of playing in the finals in Poland this summer.

March, who had not featured for the Young Lions since a 3-1 win over Switzerland at the Amex in November 2015 having spent nearly a year on the sidelines with a knee injury, said: “I didn’t think I would get a call-up (to the squad) to be honest so I was happy to have the chance to play.

“There are no more friendlies (between now and the finals) so it was good to stake my claim with a goal and a performance. Hopefully I can get there.”

March cut in from the right wing to arrow a shot into the top corner after 15 minutes having played a part in Ruben Loftus-Cheek’s opener.

The Albion wideman also had a hand in the third goal as his corner was nodded down by Kortney Hause for Cauley Woodrow to fire home. Loftus-Cheek completed the scoring with his second of the night.

March added: “It was a nice strike, especially on a tough pitch so I am happy with that.”

March was replaced by Leicester City’s Demarai Gray after 61 minutes while Seagulls goalkeeper Christian Walton was an unused substitute.
