One of Chris Hughton’s former players made Albion’s promotion 100% official.
Many Albion fans watched on TV at the Amex as Jacob Butterfield, who played for Hughton at Norwich, secured a 1-1 draw for Derby at home to Huddersfield.
The game was shown on the big screens as supporters watched from the stands.
Others saw the third-placed Terriers drop two points from bars around the stadium.
Hughton briefly appeared back at the end of the tunnel when promotion was assured at around 7pm before going back inside.
Then Lewis Dunk appeared, running across the pitch to the players’ lounge pursued by fans.
The draw was also good news for Newcastle in the race for automatic promotion.
