LIAM ROSENIOR has vowed a return to the Premier League with Albion will bring out the best in him.

He believes the top flight is better suited to his style of defending.

Rosenior is heading back to the Premier League – where he has played for Fulham, Reading and Hull – after two seasons in the Championship ravaged by injury with the promoted Seagulls.

The 33-year-old told The Argus: “I have always performed better in the Premier League.

“I’m not the biggest, I’m not the most physical defender. The Championship is a very physical league – you win your headers, you win your tackles, defend crosses.

“In the Premier League you defend a higher quality of passes. You have got to read the game better, you’ve got to be positionally sound.

“You have to defend more phases. Instead of a team crossing the ball into the box they will stop, come out and go the other side, so you have to change position.

“The difference defensively in the Premier League defensively is you have to be able to read the game.

“That’s my strength. I’m physical and fast, but my strength defensively has been reading the game.”

Rosenior expects his co-defenders at Albion to cope with the transition.

“I think the likes of (Lewis) Dunk, Shane (Duffy), Bruno, Connor (Goldson), Uwe (Huenemeier) can all do that,” he said. “They are all readers of the game. It suits that type of defender better than the physical ones who want to go and win every header, win every tackle and dive in.

“I’ve not been that type of defender and that’s why my performance have always been better in the Premier League than the Championship, so I’m really excited and looking forward to it.”

Rosenior will be vying for a spot with skipper Bruno, Gaetan Bong and two more full-backs Albion are planning to sign.

The Argus has revealed their interest in both Austrian international left-back Markus Suttner from Ingolstadt and versatile young Liverpool defender Joe Gomez.

The Seagulls are expected to unveil an addition to their squad today.

Meanwhile, Albion under-23s have been drawn against Oxford, MK Dons and Stevenage in the southern group stages of the Checkatrade Trophy.

They reached the last 16 last season before losing to eventual winners Coventry.
