Maty Ryan has shrugged off his club record price tag and vowed to help Albion become mainstays of the Premier League.

The Seagulls paid around £5.2 million for the Australian international goalkeeper from Valencia.

Ryan, who makes his debut in tomorrow’s friendly at Crawley, told The Argus: “When I am out there on the pitch I don’t have in my mind that I’ve got to save this ball because they’ve paid this much money for me.

“I’m just out there trying to react off my instincts and do my best.

“You have some control over your performances. Price tags and what clubs are willing to pay for you is a compliment to you as a footballer.

“It gives you a little boost of confidence that they recognise the abilities you have and that you can do a real job for them.”

Ryan started training with Albion this week after extra time off to recover from representing his country in the Confederations Cup in Russia.

He said: “I have definitely come here in a good frame of mind, really positive. It has only been going in the right direction since arriving here and seeing the great facilities, the stadium also and this bunch of boys.

“I really feel like we can be a mainstay Premier League team and that’s definitely the goal.”

Manager Chris Hughton will utilise his squad at Crawley in similar fashion to the first friendly against Fortuna Dusseldorf in Austria a week ago.

He said: “Some might go longer (than 45 minutes) but we’ll look at taking 22 players.”
