Albion manager Chris Hughton is not taking Barnet lightly – despite making wholesale changes for their Carabao Cup visit.

The Bees have started the season well in League Two, beating fancied Luton and drawing at newcomers Forest Green Rovers before narrowly losing their unbeaten record at Crewe on Saturday.

They also knocked out League One Peterborough away from home in the first round.

Colchester held out until the 64th minute at the Amex before conceding four against Albion last season.

Hughton said: “From what we’ve seen so far they’ve (Barnet) been very good and go about their business in the right way.

“We also have experience, going back to last season, of how difficult these games can be.

“We have made a decision to use the squad and it’s a really good opportunity for them, but we certainly won’t under-estimate how difficult these games can be.

“Barnet coming to the Amex will want to put on a performance and a winning performance. They will raise their game.

“They have been very good defensively playing a back three which can go into a back five. They are very athletic, well-drilled, and it shows by their results so far this season.

“They’ve all been tight games – Crewe was a defeat by a single goal – so they are well-organised and playing in a structure which will be quite hard to break down. But we’re at home, we’ve got to use the spaces and the quality we’ve got.”
