Chris Hughton hailed Albion’s first Premier League win – and said it was well deserved.
Pascal Gross (2) and Tomer Hemed were on target as the Seagulls beat West Brom 3-1.
Success followed their 0-0 draw at Watford ahead of the international break, when they hit the post twice.
Hughton said: “I'm delighted. When you are on the back of a performance that should be a winning performance, it's really pleasing when that happens.
“We thoroughly deserved it. It was a bit nervy when they got one goal back, but we coped with their threat very well.”
Hughton accepted the win was a landmark occasion as they recorded their first success in the Premier League.
It was their first top-flight victory since beating Coventry at the Goldstone towards the end of the 1982-83 campaign.
Hughton said: “Probably we've had a lot of key moments in my time here.
“Last season, the exploits were massive and (the celebrations) went on for some time.
“It's only then that you realise the magnitude of it for this club.
“We got to 70 minutes against a very good Manchester City side.
“Today is our first win, and we've got to keep looking for these key moments.”
