Boss Chris Hughton has praised his makeshift Albion side after they were knocked out of the Carabao Cup in extra-time.

Sub Josh King sent Bournemouth through to tomorrow night's last 16 draw with the only goal in the first period of extra-time at the Vitality Stadium.

Hughton made ten changes and changed the system after Friday's 2-1 Premier League defeat against the same opponents. Liam Rosenior, the sole survivor played as one of three central defenders in front of Tim Krul, who was outstanding on his first appearance in goal.

Hughton said: "We know the quality they've got and we know they are going to probe, but ironically we had probably the best chance of the game with Jamie Murphy.

"We made it difficult for them. We played with no recognised centre-forward, two young boys in centre-midfield (Jayson Molumby and Dessie Hutchinson), two of our signings playing their first 90 minutes (Jose Izquierdo and Ezequiel Schelotto).

"So overall I'm delighted with the performance, not the result, because it's a competition we wanted to go through in."

Hutchinson made his debut alongside fellow Republic of Ireland prospect Molumby.

Hughton said: "Jayson was with us in the last round but it was Dessie's first inclusion in the squad. I'm really delighted for those two.

"We were always in the game and, to take them to extra-time, I'm disappointed for the lads because of the effort they put in.

"We knew they would have the bulk of the possession and we played a system (3-4-3) we haven't played before and didn't have too much time to work on. We executed it really well."

Hughton did not risk Glenn Murray against his old club following the centre-forward's recent ankle injury.

Skipper Bruno is expected to return from a back injury in Sunday's Premier League visit by Hughton's old club Newcastle.
