IZZY Brown is on standby for an emergency role for Albion at Arsenal.

The loan signing from Chelsea has been pencilled in by Chris Hughton for the No.9 spot.

Hughton has a striker crisis for Sunday’s visit to the Emirates (noon).

Tomer Hemed is facing a three-match suspension for treading on Newcastle defender DeAndre Yedlin in the 1-0 victory at the Amex, although, Albion are contesting his FA charge for violent conduct.

Glenn Murray is still troubled by an ankle injury and Sam Baldock remains sidelined after calf surgery.

That potentially leaves Hughton without a recognised striker.

Jamie Murphy operated as a ‘false’ No.9 in the Carabao Cup exit at Bournemouth, but Hughton is more likely to turn to the fit-again Brown.

Hughton said of the striker shortage: “What we always wanted and what you need, certainly at this level, is options.

“At this moment we are fortunate that Tomer is doing it, but he is also staying fit.

“The other option is Izzy Brown, who has only just come back from injury and who really is a number ten.”

Brown’s involvement so far has been limited by a hamstring injury midway through the first half of his debut in the home defeat by Manchester City on the opening day of the season.

The 20-year-old returned to the squad for the Newcastle game as an unused substitute.
