BOSS Chris Hughton has urged Albion not to waste the win at West Ham.

The Seagulls head into Sunday’s clash at the Amex against Southampton on a high following the 3-0 victory at the London Stadium.

Hughton is refusing to get carried away by the result or the Seagulls’ encouraging start in the Premier League.

He told The Argus: “I won’t and I won’t allow anyone to. It’s a good performance and a really good win away from home. We lose at home to Southampton then everything changes again.

“We are nine games into the season. I think we have adjusted okay, played two of the top six (Manchester City and Arsenal) and one extra away from home. We were very good (at West Ham), but I know the levels in this division.

“If we can play at a good enough level for us then you have always got a chance of being in most games.”

Hughton believes his side, 12th in the table, are learning. They have won two and drawn one of their last four games after one victory in the first five matches, which included leading and losing at Bournemouth.

He said: “When you look at the two goals we conceded against Bournemouth, it was really clever play. The second goal at Arsenal, Sanchez does a back-heel. That’s quality.

“It’s moments. Sometimes you will defend it well, sometimes you won’t. You’re tested all the time.

“I think we are (learning), but as much as you can have a good period, you can also lose three or four games on the spin. Every game for us is still a challenge.

“We won’t have one game that you think is going to be easy or comfortable. You have to make the most of every game.

“The top six is difficult, but you know if you play a team outside the top six and you play to your strengths and your maximum, you have a chance anywhere.”
