ALBION marksman Glenn Murray is on the brink of club history as he tries to stretch his goal streak at the Amex tonight.

Murray will become the first Albion player ever to score in four successive matches in the top flight if he strikes again against Stoke.

It would also be the first time the 34-year-old target man has achieved the feat at the highest level.

Murray found the net twice at West Ham, in the last home game against Southampton and at Swansea before the international break, following his recovery from ankle trouble.

His goals have gained points and saved the Seagulls a fortune after they missed out on adding to their strike force in the transfer window.

Manager Chris Hughton said: “At this level, to bring in what you regard as a guaranteed goalscorer costs you a lot of money but we know what we have in Glenn.

“He’s been very consistent, not just at this club but where ever he has been.

“As he gets older and more experienced, there are aspects you lose out on, but knowing where the goal is isn’t one of them. He has that knack.

“When we took Glenn we knew what he was going to give us. We felt he would give us goals but at our level of club there has to be a contribution to the team as well and that has to come first.”

Club legend Peter Ward, in December 1979, and former Liverpool and Manchester City striker Mike Robinson, in December 1980, each scored in three top flight games in a row for Albion.

Murray reached the same mark in the Premier League for Crystal Palace three seasons ago and now attempts to emulate a four-game scoring stint for Albion in the Championship last December.

He has accumulated 80 goals in 172 league appearances across his two spells with the Seagulls.
