Mathew Ryan has been hailed as a trump card for Albion ahead of a Wembley dress rehearsal for the World Cup finals.

The Australian No.1 faces 11-1 fifth favourites France, Peru and Denmark in the group stages in Russia next summer following yesterday’s draw in Moscow.

The French goalkeeper is Tottenham’s Hugo Lloris. Albion clash with Spurs at Wembley in 11 days but first they meet Liverpool at the Amex today.

Ryan kept his fifth clean sheet of the season with a smart double save to foil Christian Benteke and Wilfried Zaha in Tuesday’s 0-0 draw against Crystal Palace.

Boss Chris Hughton said: “Where Maty has been very good is in some games he hasn’t been the busiest of goalkeepers.

“But we’ve needed him for those moments, those goalscoring opportunities the opposition have.

“At the moment he is in good form and he has come up trumps for us.”

Winger Jose Izquierdo, Albion’s record signing, is hoping to be part of Colombia’s World Cup squad if he shines for the Seagulls in the Premier League.

His country have been drawn against Poland, Senegal and Japan.

Colombia are potential last 16 rivals for England, who have been paired against Belgium, Panama and Tunisia.
