ALBION boss Chris Hughton is hoping Wembley brings the best out of his players to cope with a poor patch and a resurgent Spurs.

The Seagulls head into Wednesday’s clash against Hughton’s old club with one point from four games and without a goal in open play in six-and-a-half hours after the lacklustre 2-0 defeat at Huddersfield.

Tottenham bounced back to form by hammering Stoke 5-1 at the national stadium, a repeat of Albion’s result in their last match at the Amex against Liverpool.

Hughton told The Argus: “At the moment we’re hugely disappointed and we’re hurting. You don’t like to lose games but now is a time to think about the qualities we’ve got, try to get back on track.

“We have a hugely difficult game on Wednesday night. We’ve already seen what the big boys can do when they are on form.

“They have such great quality and you don’t have to have that bad a day for them to be able to do that. They don’t come much tougher than what we have on Wednesday.

“Tottenham have beaten what I regard as a very good Stoke side. They are very well organised, have good players and a very good defensive structure, yet Tottenham scored five goals.

“That’s what they can do. For us at this moment’s it’s a challenge on the back of two bad defeats and performances. It’s only us as a team and group that can do something about that. There are so many big challenges but this is as big as it gets on Wednesday.”

Albion are four points above the relegation zone in 13th and performance levels have dipped since beating Swansea and rising to eighth before the international break.

Hughton said: “It’s a concern but we were never going to keep that level, as a team going up, right through the season.

“Through that you are going to have some challenging periods. You’ve got to come through the other side, pick up some results, get those levels back up again and get yourself back on track.”
