BOSS Chris Hughton has called for a repeat of Albion’s last performance at an iconic venue against Spurs at Wembley tomorrow night.

The Seagulls almost surprised Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United at Old Trafford last month, losing to a Lewis Dunk own goal.

Hughton hopes they recapture that form against his old club after a tame draw at home to arch-rivals Crystal Palace, followed by back-to-back defeats by Liverpool and Huddersfield.

He said: “I would like to think we will have gained something from our performance a few weeks ago at Old Trafford. Although it didn’t get us any points it was certainly a good enough performance and a team that went there with no fear.

“I would like that type of performance and sometimes if it is not a winning performance but you think the team gave everything, tried to have a go and got into some good areas, then you can come away happy with that.

“I hope we have a team that can go there with confidence, defend well – which we know we will have to – but certainly show enough on the ball.”

Albion have lost all four matches so far against the ‘Big Six’ and failed to score in open play.

They are 13th in the Premier League with 17 points from 16 games and will drop a place if Stoke defy the formbook by winning tonight at surprise packages Burnley, who visit the Amex on Saturday.

Hughton said: “Looking ahead at the start of the season, if we were told we would be in this position at this stage then I think we would have been happy with it.

“The Liverpool game (5-1), that can happen, but not to lose the amount of goals that we did, and we are coming off a poor performance at Huddersfield.

“You always want more. Do we deserve more points? Probably not but I think we have showed enough already this season that if we can play at a level, play at our best, there are teams in this division that we can very much compete against.”
