Albion manager Chris Hughton was pleased with Beram Kayal's Premier League debut in last night's 2-0 defeat by Tottenham at Wembley.

The Israeli midfielder made his first appearance of the campaign after breaking a leg in the final friendly against Atletico Madrid in August.

Kayal lasted 78 minutes before he was replaced by Pascal Gross.

Hughton said: "One pleasing aspect was Beram Kayal playing his first game of the season and I thought he did well, acquitted himself really well."

Kayal set up an equalising chance for fellow Israeli Tomer Hemed, making his first start since scoring and incurring a retrospective suspension for stamping in the win against Newcastle in September.

Hemed shot too close to keeper Hugo Lloris from 12 yards out.

Hughton said: "I thought we had two really good chances and Tomer's was the best one. They are the moments that you have to take.

"At 1-1 it becomes a different game. They would have to open up far more than they did, take more chances than they did."
