Albion have smashed their transfer record for the fourth time in seven months and ended their long search for a striker by sealing the signing of Dutch hotshot Jurgen Locadia.

The 24-year-old completed a £14 million move from PSV Eindhoven last night on a four-year contract and will be paraded at today's game against Chelsea at the Amex (12.30).

But the Seagulls will have to wait for the goalscoring prowess they hope will keep them in the Premier League.

A hamstring injury sustained against Ajax last month is expected to keep Locadia out until the home game against West Ham early next month or the trip to Stoke a week later.

Locadia, who has signed a contract until 2022, told The Argus: "I don't know an exact date but I'm working hard every day to come back hard and strong. It's difficult to tell an exact date.

"I was playing well at PSV, a lot of goals. If an injury like that happens it's bad for you. The only thing you can do is work hard every day, train your a*** off and come back strong."

Albion's spending spree following promotion to the Premier League began with the £5 million plus signing of Australian goalkeeper Mathew Ryan from Valencia in June.

They splashed out £10 million on Locadia's PSV midfield team-mate Davy Propper and £13.5 million on Colombian left-winger Jose Izquierdo from Brugge.

Locadia's arrival takes the total spend by owner-chairman Tony Bloom in the quest for a second season in the top flight to well over £50 million.

Locadia, on target nine times in 15 games for Eredivise leaders PSV this season with six assists, is not concerned about the price tag. He said: "I don't pick the price, that's between the clubs."

He expects his combination of pace, power and movement to be well-suited to English football and manager Chris Hughton's tactics after operating through the middle or on the left of PSV's 4-3-3 system.

Locadia said: "To be honest, I think I will fit better into a four-four-two system instead of a four-three-three because I like to run, I like to fight for the ball.

"In a four-four-two, I can run in between spaces instead of being in one position, like the striker only. It's not for me, I like to move and feel free."

Locadia will wear the No.25 shirt worn by Albion goalscoring legend Bobby Zamora in his two spells at the club.

"I used to look up to Thierry Henry, Christiano Ronaldo because of his work ethic," he said.

"A typical goalscorer I love to look at (Gonzalo) Higuain on Youtube, how he scores goals and the movement, Lukaku also. I think that's similar to me too."

Albion have been hunting for a pacey and powerful goalscorer since they were promoted from the Championship last April.

Moves for Tammy Abraham, Raphael Dwamena, Florin Andone and Vincent Janssen fell through in the summer transfer window for a variety of reasons.

Locadia was also on their target list but cash-strapped PSV decided not to sell when he was about to join Wolves.

Hughton has been operating with Glenn Murray, Tomer Hemed and Sam Baldock, who has only recently returned from summer calf surgery.

The Seagulls are still outside the relegation zone in 16th but have won only once in their last 12 games and Hughton has been desperate to add a different dimension to his attacking options to stretch opposition defences.

Hughton said: "He is a player we have been aware of for some time and it's been no secret we have wanted to add a striker of his type.

"He is a strong, powerful and quick centre-forward, with a real eye for goal and will increase our attacking options in the second half of the season.

"Jurgen already has a prolific goal record with PSV in the Dutch top division and it is one we hope he can continue here with us in the Premier League."
