Uwe Huenemeier has admitted his Albion future is up in the air.

But the German central defender is putting his own situation on the backburner while the Seagulls fight for Premier League survival.

Huenemeier’s three-year contract expires at the end of the season.

His appearances have been limited by a long-term injury suffered against today’s FA Cup opponents Middlesbrough and the form of Lewis Dunk and Shane Duffy.

Huenemeier, poised for a rare outing in the fourth round tie at the Riverside Stadium, told The Argus: “It probably depends on the next few months.

“I have already been in touch with the club a little bit. I think they are still quite happy with me, having an experienced player like me.

“Even in training I am still like a leader. Even when I’m not playing I don’t drop my intensity in training or my way of supporting other players.

“But I think I am still fit enough. Do I want to carry on like that, be around, on the bench, in the stands? So we have to see how the situation develops.

“I am out of contract but right now I’m more focussed on how we are going to finish the season.”

Huenemeier moved to England in August 2015 to join Albion after spells in Germany with Borussia Dortmund and skippering Paderborn in the Bundesliga.

The 32-year-old is unsure about where his future lies, in terms of country as well as club.

He said: “Right now it’s hard to say. My kids are still in Germany and living away from them now for nearly three years is not easy.

“There are a few things coming up that I have to think about in the next few months, then I have to make a decision. It depends always on options.

“I am going to speak to the club first, of course. I think they are still quite happy with me but then I have to make a decision for my own (benefit).”
