Chris Hughton believes two moments of quality sank his Albion side at Old Trafford.
But he was “delighted” with much of the performance in their FA Cup quarter-final.
Far post headers from Romelu Lukaku and Nemanja Matic towards the end of either half sent Albion to a 2-0 defeat by Manchester United.
Albion had a good period in the second half when Jurgen Locadia twice went close.
Hughton said: “I’m delighted with the performance from our team but the only difference was the moments on front of goal and the quality they can produce.
“I know they had of possession and threatened a lot around the box but I thought we were as big a goal threat as they were.
“Of course they had more possession, as you would expect at home.
“But I thought we were always in the game and gave them a good enough game.”
