TIM KRUL is poised for talks over his future as Albion assess their goalkeeping options for next season.

Krul, out of contract next month, has understudied Mathew Ryan in the Premier League since joining the Seagulls in August after 11 years with Newcastle.

The Dutchman told The Argus: “We are safe now, so the talks will start this week hopefully. I am expecting some news. I’ve heard some positive noises from the club’s perspective, but nothing has changed.

“I’m 30, I’m fitter than I’ve ever been, this is the level I want to be playing at, but that’s part and parcel of being a goalkeeper.

“There’s only one that can play and Maty’s done well this season. I’m not silly to not see that, but I’m at a high level at the moment.

“We’ve got a really good group with a good goalie coach (Ben Roberts) pushing us every day. If something happens to Maty then we are more than covered.

“I am trying every day to be ready, I am just pleased that I’m back where I need to be and I am looking forward to showing it again, hopefully a bit more than this season.”

Krul lost his place at Newcastle after suffering cruciate knee ligament damage on international duty.

Ryan’s form has restricted him to four FA Cup appearances and one in the Carabao Cup for the Seagulls.

Albion have decisions to make about the goalkeeping group for their second season in the Premier League.

Niki Maenpaa, relegated to third choice following the arrival of Krul, is also out of contract. His deal has an option clause for both parties and he is keen to play.

Christian Walton will be in the mix as well after helping Wigan back to the Championship and the League One title.

Ryan will maintain his ever-present record in the Premier League this season against Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday before heading off to the World Cup with Australia.
