This is the sort of attacking flair Jose Izquierdo hopes will secure him a crack at World Cup glory.

The Albion winger takes on defenders during a training session with the Colombia squad.

Izquierdo is believed to be battling it out with Sevilla forward Luis Muriel for a berth wide on the left when his side meet Japan in their opening fixture on Tuesday.

Muriel is better known as a central striker but he can also operate out wide.

The Seagulls star said: “Muriel is a born goalscorer. He is more of a striker but, the way we are in the national team, everyone wants to play and he has been versatile and played down the left.

“But I’m the player who has played more time in that position.

“He has shown he can play there in previous call-ups.

“I’ll be looking to bring all that I’ve learned in my time in England.”

Colombia have arrived at their base in Kazan with staff at AC Milan wishing them well.

With Italy not involved in the finals, Los Cafeteros used Milan’s training facilities at Milanello to gear up for the tournament.

Izquierdo’s form in his first Premier League season, allied to lively performances off the bench for his country, have greatly enhanced his chances of featuring for Jose Pekerman’s side, be it from kick-off or as an impact substitute.
