Albion boss Gus Poyet has praised his defence for keeping promotion-chasing Colchester at bay.
The Seagulls became the only side apart from leaders Norwich to prevent Colchester from scoring at home in last night’s 0-0 draw in front of the Sky TV cameras.
It was also Albion’s second clean sheet in succession and the point moves them six clear of the relegation zone.
Poyet said: “The back four defended well. They are making good decisions and the keeper (Peter Brezovan) is helping us a lot, especially in games like this one, coming out for I don’t know how many crosses.
“It was a challenge for them. Let’s see if we are good enough to keep a clean sheet away from home at Colchester with the quantity of balls that are going to come into the box and with their strength in the air. We did it, so I am very proud of the way we defended.”
Albion also had two penalty appeals rejected for challenges on Glenn Murray by Magnus Okuonghae in the first half and Kemal Izzet after the break.
Poyet said: “The first one was definitely a penalty, the second one no chance.”
Albion are now unbeaten for four games and Colchester manager Aidy Boothroyd admitted his side were second best. He said: “I think we were fortunate in the first half, when Brighton played very well. I am disappointed with a draw but we did not deserve any more than that.”
