Glenn Murray insists Albion cannot take their eyes of the drop zone, despite their good recent run.
The Seagulls have lost just once in six games since the unlucky defeat to Norwich and are up to 15th in League One.
They can increase what is now a five-point buffer over the bottom four when they go to Oldham on Saturday.
Murray, whose header sent the Seagulls towards a 3-0 win over Brentford on Tuesday, said: “We are really starting to pull away from that relegation zone.
“Obviously we don’t think we are away from trouble at all but, now there are a few points between us and the bottom four, it’s a hell of a lot nicer than it was three or four weeks ago.
“We need to just keep building on what we are doing and keep picking up points.”
Murray has thanked team mates for their congratulations after he ended his Withdean goal famine against the Bees.
Colleagues rushed to celebrate with the striker after he netted at home for the first time in 12 months.
Murray, now on 13 for the season, said: “It was quite nice. Obviously they know everyone has been getting on me about not scoring at Withdean.
“I think they were as happy for me as I was.”
Murray, as plenty of people reminded him, had not netted at home since beating Lloyd Owusu to the ball and scuffing home a penalty in the 5-0 romp over Yeovil a year ago.
But his last Withdean strike in open play dated back to November 1, 2008, when he netted twice in a 4-1 thrashing of Millwall coming off the bench.
“You know your luck’s in when Glenn Murray scores at home,” joked Adam Virgo amid a cheerful post-match media session on Tuesday as Albion enjoyed a third win in five games.
Murray had always insisted the home famine did not bother him. But was that really the case?
He looked happy with the evening’s events but said: “Other people were bothered more than me. Everybody seemed to make a big deal of it “I thought we dug in and showed a bit of resilience. We kept going and got our deserved second and third.”
Albion’s eight-point gap over the bottom four was cut by three when James Dunne headed a late winner for Exeter against Bristol Rovers last night.
