Albion loan star Kazenga LuaLua faces a lengthy lay-off after tearing a hamstring.
But the Newcastle winger has not ruled out a return to the Seagulls – even if the injury sidelines him for the rest of the season.
A scan in Newcastle yesterday on the damage LuaLua sustained during the first half of Tuesday’s 3-0 home win over Brentford has revealed a moderate tear.
The Toon’s medical staff estimate it will sideline him for between six and eight weeks but Albion are hopeful he will be allowed back down to the South Coast for treatment.
LuaLua has lit up their attacking play since boss Gus Poyet arranged the deal with Newcastle chief Chris Hughton, initially for a month and then the rest of the season.
The 19-year-old’s electric runs have enthralled supporters and the Seagulls have taken 11 points from seven games with him in the side to ease themselves away from the relegation zone.
Lua Lua told The Argus last night: “It’s a big disappointment because I was having a good time.
“It is a shame for me to be injured because the team was playing well as well but there is nothing I can do about it.
“I wouldn’t rule out a return. It would be good for me to come back there again.”
Chris Holroyd is doubtful for tomorrow’s trip to Oldham but Diego Arismendi is on course for his first appearance in the squad since his loan move from Stoke last month.
The defensive midfielder came through training yesterday feeling no ill-effects to the thigh injury which has sidelined him so far.

Surely Cox or Carole will get a chance to start could be make or break for both of them.I think we should stick with 4-5-1 until we are sure of staying up. No time to change a winning formula away from home.
We wish him a swift recovery, and look forward to his return, he certainly added another element to Albion's play. On the next point, if Holroyd is ruled out, then this is Fozzie's opportunity to force his way back as a first choice. When he came on on Tuesday it lifted the team's performance to another level and piled the extra pressure on Brentford.
