Poyet praises his match winners

Gus Poyet praised his match winners as Albion enjoyed a 2-0 success at Oldham today.

Elliott Bennett fired into the top corner as the Seagulls extended their impressive form with a seventh victory on the road in League One this season.

A clumsy Jon Worthington own goal and Peter Brezovan's brilliant penalty save from Pawel Abbott secured the points.

Poyet said: "It wasn't one of the greatest games, especially in the first half.

"Maybe we were too complacent with our position.

"But as soon as we started playing, particularly after the goal from Elliott which was from another game, I think we controlled the game.

"There were key moments - the goal and starting the seocnd half much better.

"We really started playing our game and we were in control so they couldn't create chances.

"The second goal came with a little bit of luck but I thought we totally deserved it at that time.

"And of course the save of the game. I don't know if you are going to see a better penalty save than that one.

"We needed something special today.

"There were some periods when it was not the best game but you need to be resilient and you need someone to stand up ahead of the rest.

"Today the goal from Elliott and the save from Peter came up to a really high level."

Well done Carole for setting up the own goal (and nulllifying all the unjustified stick u get)! A tough act to follow after Lua Lua - who fingers crossed, may sign permanantly come June!

Safe now me thinks and also backed us to win 2 zip..............

For what its worth it will be a totally different Albion next season and we probably say good by to, and thank for being blue and white:

Nicky Forster
Liam Dickinson
OH Gary Hart
Michel Kuipers
Colin Hawkins
Dean Cox
Andrew Whing
Gavin Hoyte
Alan Navarro?
(hope we give Davies a chance).

Also hope Glenn Murray wants to stay as top, top striker!

In Gus we trust & up the Albion!

Yes. Well done to the Albion indeed. Dicker didn't have his best game today but the the others did, and the team peformance was magnificant! Murray is looking like he is enjoying playing for us and did some great work today. Painter was class also, as were the whole defence. Would love to see Painter stay at this rate. Carole had big boots to fill and definately did an ok job, but we certainly didn't look as potent. Lua lua must come back next season, please!! Oh and a mention for Brezovan, his goals/games ratio must be starting to look good, and our confidence in him is growing.

Amazing stuff, I love being an Albion fan again!!!

Alan navarro is going nowhere he has been ever present all season and has been an integral part of our form. He is also a major part of the defensive unit what planet are some people from

The fact Poyet has a defensive midfielder in from stoke suggests he may be looking at other options than Navarro - wake up and smell the coffee..............

I think a 5 million pound defensive midfielder from poyets homeland was a case of too good to be true! To go up next season we need a squad and to get rid of a player who has done very well will never happen it's just common sense. I'm not saying there are not better players and that goes for the whole side I'm just saying that navarro will still be on the squad list for next season and I personally will be happy about it

I agree with the list of likely departures, barring Navarro and, hopefully, there will be some kind of contract for Forster. Though this is more a hope than expectation.

Agree with the comment directly above, Diego's arrival was not so much a reflection on Navarro as happenstance. He became available and Poyet knew about him through his Uruguayan connection or maybe that connection is why he became available to us. And there has been dialogue with Stoke before, eg they were keen on Joel Lynch for some time. Btw is he injured again. I see he hardly even makes the Forest subs' bench.

after forsters late performance against brentford he deserves a new contract, even if it is just a pay as you play like caroles'

Another fabulous away win. We must push on now and win our remaining home games so there is no fear of playing there for us next year. Reakky pleased for Seb, and hope now that a positive end to the season can convince the likes of Calderon, Painter and Lua Lua that their immediate future is with the Albion. Should we also be trying to tie Gus and Mauriccio to longer contracts now that it is evident that we are playing well and picking up results?

Gus and Mauriccio should get longer contracts because if we carry on getting good results (which i hope we do) it wont take long for bigger clubs to be showing an interest in the pair of them

Spot on ! Let's make sure we get Gus and Mauriccio on longer term contracts before we sort out the playing staff.Hope we get to see Arismendi soon as he won't be here next season.

You guys are right about the contract issue for Gus and Mauricio. I think that Gus will stay to see us into Falmer, and it then depends which other club is waiving the cheque book. The guy will probably want to test himself at a higher level if he has been a sucess with the Albion. I am not sure whether Mauricio is settled to his role and his life at Brighton, in his pre-Oldham match interview, he indicated as such.
I hope they can keep the momentum going, and that they can see us in the Championship for the opening at Falmer. Brighton has waited a long time for that moment.

Contracts are worth what in football?

Regarding managers. Compensation if another club nicks yours, and continued payment of wages, when relieved of duties "by mutual consent"or sent on "gardening leave" by your own chairman. Ask Dick knight. (lol)
