Cox helps sink sad Albion

Albion old boy Dean Cox was on target to help send his former club sliding tamely out of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy tonight.

A near full-strength Seagulls side lost 2-0 at home to Russell Slade's Leyton Orient in the first round.

Cox opened the scoring when he cut inside and fired in a 21st-minute drive which took a deflection over helpless keeper Casper Ankergren.

The former Seagulls wideman refused to celebrate and was applauded back to halfway by fans nearby in the North Stand.

If that was fortunate, what followed two minutes later was high class as Cox thumped a 20-yard volley against the bar with Ankergren beaten.

Jamie Jones kept Orient on terms just before the break, saving with his right foot from the clean-through Ashley Barnes.

Jones also pushed away a Glenn Murray penalty on 50 minutes.

But by then the hosts were two down thanks to Ryan Jarvis's free header from a free kick less than two minutes into the half.

See your back to normal losing at home to Orient. This is where the rot sets in and the bubble has burst. Still you must be elated to have won so many games in one season, good while it lasted. Wait till the liability Greer comes back opposing forwards will have a field day.

Why is a Swindon fan on here gloating..did he play for Orient this evening?

Anyway please do not rise to it Albion fans...we're better than that.

Mr Kennedy .... just in case you miss the other posting I have made .... the fact that you continue to post on the Argus site suggests that you have concerns with regards to the immediate future of your own club ....
Whilst it is sometimes very pleasurable to read opinions and comments from a broader based fanbase, no matter where the allegiance of the posters concerned lies, it can be a little irksome when experiencing a seemingly continuous barrage of vitriol from a particular source, that is aimed at merely antagonising regular contributors of the site ....
The fact that your comments raise any response at all, is simply because they are seen as rather humorous anecdotes pertaining to your own rather sombre existence ....
And to think that I believed Swindon fans to be extremely amiable .... Tut, tut, what could I have been thinking ....

Well done to Dean Cox, not just for his goal but for the way he didn't gloat, what a gent. And well done Albion fans for the genourous applause afforded Cox, Revell and in particular Russell Slade. Can we now stop Murray taking penalties, my Mum could do a better job.

Listening to the pre-match interview with Gus, I'm not surprised if Gus just simply told the boys to go out and treat it as a practise match as clearly to him, and to me, it was only the Johnston's Tin Pot.. a meaningless competition with the only reward being a trip to Wembley. If Gus had put more emphasis on it then surely the lads would have performed much better as you can see they do in the league which is more important than competitions like this!

i hate to be pesimistic, but tonights albion performance is up there as one of the worst ive seen...and ive been to a fair few games....ok it was a pointless game but with the strength of the team that started, this does not bode well in my mind. And why bring on Gary Hart with 20 mins to go whilst 2-0 down....he hasnt scored in years!!!!! Wilkins was right to release him

Thank god we're out of the paint pot. Another two bob cup competition. We've already lost a player for the whole season in the cardboard cup. Much rather have the 3 points in the league fixture.

keyword: Start next season in the championship.

Never good to lose but if we are gonna play at wembley i would rather it was in the play offs than the P*ss pot trophy , would not swap this result for league points and we have a good collection of league points so far .

For your information, we often have a couple of your morons posting garbage on our site.......
MikeK is purely repaying the complimentary quotes that your so called fans give us!!
We have a mutual interest because you are fairly close rivals in the same league with a few player / manager connections.
It's good to see how the local opposition feel about their club, as I think you should be there or thereabouts come next May....
That said, I for one will guarantee that Swindon will finish higher in the league than you big spenders!
Any takers at even money are most welcome......

Most fans on this siete do have respect for Swindon but not if they post garbage as you do on our site. Really? You think Calderon, Painter, Sparrow and LuaLua are poor players? I am not one of the 'Gus is God' squad but the standard of football has improved immeasureably since Poyet's appointment and I am certain the team will finish in the top half of the table at least. If you cannot see that this is so then I think you lack any clear judgement.

I understand that success can mean hundreds of thousands for the winning club, that is not to be sniffed at.

BTW I understand that clubs are obliged to field their strongest team, or face a fine

So does that theory then apply with the Brighton fans who post on our board............oh dear did that hurt shooting yourself in the foot MK.

To the Swindon fans who are trying to take the moral high ground....I had a look at one of your forums during the Greer affair and while I couldn't read any of the wind-ups from Brighton's own keyboard warriors (everything even slightly contentious / disagreeable had been deleted by overly precious mods), the relentless homophobic and otherwise derogatory nature of a LARGE number of Swindon contributors' comments beggered belief.

I noticed that the rather pathetic overuse of the 'c' word added further lack of intellect that has informed my opinion very firmly of Swindon's far from classy 'online fans'....the foul languagemwasn't all Albion themed by the way.

As for the big spending remark, would you care to clarify how we've spent more than you? I think you'll find your Celtic aquisitions equate to our signings and we've only paid fees for Greer (£250,000?) and Barnes (£125,000).

Please don't infect this site with your inane drivel.

I think you'll see *aptain (must not use the c word) both sets were as bad as one another at the attempts to wind each other up, There were quite a few Brighton writers who used offensive language and derogatory remarks too on our site.
So come down off of your pinnacle. I believe the 'big spending' was initially generated by comments of your own supporters with their new found wealth within the club, after the years of misery.
