Hart so pleased to score Amex opener

Gary Hart has admitted he was desperate to score the first goal at Albion's new stadium to complete an Amex/Withdean double.

The long-serving striker's fairytale 70th minute header helped the Seagulls to a 2-0 victory over Eastbourne Borough in the Sussex Senior Cup final at The Amex.

Hart, 34, said: "I wanted to score the first goal, I am not going to deny that.

"I was getting frustrated in the first half, because I didn't really have many chances but it came to me and it's good, a little bit history for me again, because I scored the first goal at Withdean as well (against Nottingham Forest)."

Hart released by Albion at the end of last season, captained the team and lifted the Cup after he was substituted late on to a warm ovation from the crowd of 7,104.

"It's an amazing stadium to play in," he said. "I'm just glad I got the chance."

Perfect! I wouldn't have wanted anyone else to score the first goal at the AMEX.

I hope his image gets included on this new Albion Legends board inside the new ground.

well in harty, great stuff mate.
Good result, not a great game. Terrible service in west stand upper, 45 min wait to get served. finally happened at 14:50. Beer was brought in from a different area and the Hotdogs and burgers were disgusting. Old, dry with hard bread. It needs to improve not sure it will with an extra 14000 in the crowd next time.

sometimes the right thing happens. Harty scoring is one of those. Brilliant.

Cant believe stadium if finally here. Remember the first pics of proposed stadium back in early 80's when Mike Bamber was running things, think it was hoped to be where Southwick Holme Bush Shops are now?

It will be one of those times when you look back and say"I WAS THERE" Absolutely right that Gary Hart scored that goal, i will admit that i chaoked a little bit when he was substituted at the end. The other youngsters (lol) looked good as well, especially Cook, definetley playing in the same style as the first team. Agree with the comments about the catering, needs to improve drastically for the Spurs game or there could be a riot ( or a bun fight) but the acoustics are awesome, twenty chanting in the north stand made the hairs on the back of neck stand up, i cannot begin to think what it will be like when the place is full.....

Gary Hart - true legend! Congratulations and what a fitting end! 1st goal at Withdean v Forest too! As impressive as the stadium is, am I alone in thinking it's been a little 'oversold'. Amazing for us with recent experiences but not so 'awesome' to set the pulses racing for visitng fans i didn't feel? I'm guessing there's still bits to be done as it had an air of 'unfinished' about it? catering service in west lower was also abysmal but pies are excellent! All said, with the atmosphere created by just a few yesterday, home games are going to be sensational and I can't wait!

Really chuffed for Harty to get the first ever goal at the new stadium he has been a great servant to our club. Thanks for all you have done GH good luck for the future. Still pinching myself that I was sitting in the new stadium yesterday and expecting to wake up from a dream at some point. When it is full the volume will be terrific and a real lift for the players. One word describes if for me AWESOME! Only concern for me was the refreshment side of things as other posters have commented. Not all were open which I guess was due to attendance, howver when I went to get a cuppa just before half time a steward was telling people it was a 35 minute wait. With a full house to come at future games and even with the other kiosks open I think the wait will be just as bad. Having said that there will always be a few teething problems and I feel sure the club will work on this. As for the game I thought Cook looked really comfortable and I can see why Gus rates him and offered him a new deal. Best player by a mile was Yasir Kasim. Comfortable on the ball and a good passer. Will make the 1st team squad this season and will keep improving.

ok, to all those people moanin about the standard of food, service etc at the Amex yesterday, this was a trial run, yes there was some teethin problems, mainly with the queues, but the prices? No problem, my mate and I were sayin that 7quid for a burger and a pint was pretty good value, and it didn't taste that bad at all, as for the stadium itself? Beyond my expectations, the noise is gonna be deafenin, a handful of fans singin in the North Stand gave it more atmosphere than we ever had at Withdean, believe me the place is somethin else...ps well done Harty...security word goal-this lol

Well done Harty couldn't have scripted it better and thank you for all your efforts over the years.
Was very impressed by the stadium and it's been well worth the wait and must congratulate everyone connected in the running of things from the shop to transport and staff in the ground were all very friendly and accommodating under what were unchartered waters for all involved.
There were big queues in the West Upper before the game and half time though much better after the match if you fancied a pint/food and the station was very busy both ways after the match though it was well marshalled and there was an special 6 carriage train straight through to Brighton which hopefully will be a regular feature especially as there will be 3x the fans for the league season.
All in all a wonderful experience yesterday plus can't wait to hear the noise of a full house after the handful in the North yesterday made themselves heard.
Finally a big thank you to everyone involved in making this stadium a reality

You are right Alan there will be a few teething problems to begin with which is to be expected. My comments were just observations and not intended to be a moan. As I said the stadium is awesome, the stewards were all very helpful and the park & ride journey was good as usual. Yes it will take a little longer than previously with the volume of traffic but we can all live with that as once at the stadium you are blown away. You are spot on the atmosphere inside the ground will make the hairs stand up on the back of everyones neck. I take my hat off to all of those who have made it possible. C'mon you Seagulls!

No Ringmer you were not the only one who foolishly believed the Argus's hype. I wanted to go but was under the impression that the gamewas a sell-out. Speaking to friends who were in the Eastbourne end (which was full) the crowd was pretty sparse in the North stand.

I think I'll just ignore anything the Argus says from now on. I mean, Lua Lua back on loan 'til January? Albion signing CMS? Who honestly believed any of that!!!

I'll bite.

It was a reserve/youth game 2 weeks into pre-season. What exactly were you expecting you moron?

One ramp-up, limited attendance event to test all of the services at The Amex and already an idiot is here having a moan and trying to put off Albion fans from going there-well done. I hear Palace are desperate for season ticket holders-maybe Smellhurst is more to your liking?
How anybody cannot be impressed once inside is beyond me.

Why o why do some of you guys bite? This was most probably manag/carrott - and if not, it's gotta be some imbecile with palarse tendencies . So jealous that I won't get to experience the Amex - have to make do with watching Beckham in a couple of weeks time when the Whitecaps will be playing LA.

On the other hand chuffed for the fans who get to enjoy the Albion playing in their top-notch stadium. What I'd give to pay 7 quid for a beer and a burger AND watch the seagulls at the AMEX!!!

£7 for a beer and a burger, you will have to be inside the ground for a hour to get any chance of being served.i walked up into the stadium and it looks wonky .nice big stand one side nothing anywhere else.all these btn fans desperate to get to see inside there great new home and hardly any turn up.it was only the sussex fa giving away tickets to members which made any sort of crowd except for the eastbourne fans. i really don't see what all the hype was about.as i said previous ,if you can't get a ticket you won't miss much.
