Mattock is ready for hostile reception from away fans

ALBION newcomer Joe Mattock insists boos from Leicester fans will not bother him as he prepares for his first taste of The Amex.

The left-back on loan from West Brom is expecting more hostility from supporters of his home city club tomorrow following his acrimonious departure from the Foxes three years ago.

Feelings ran so high over the transfer that Mattock was involved in a nightclub brawl in Leicester three weeks afterwards and ended up with a suspended conviction for affray.

Mattock, booed by Foxes fans when he made his debut on loan to Portsmouth in November, told The Argus: “I think I’m getting quite used to it now.

“You’ll see on Saturday if I do play there will be some boos flying around but it doesn’t faze me any more, I’m focused on playing my football.

“When I first played against them it played on my mind a bit. I know I left on bad terms but it’s part and parcel of football. Also, the fans don’t know what really goes on in the background.

“All they see is the club they love and players leaving them for what I suppose they see as no reason.

“I don’t blame them but, like I said, it doesn’t affect me any more. If I do play against them on Saturday that is going to be no real problem for me. If anything it will push me more.”

Mattock, 21, has settled his differences with Nigel Pearson, who was in charge at Leicester when he left and is now their manager again.

“I think we’ve all moved on now,” he said. “I have spoken to him since and we are all okay now but obviously the fans don’t see everything.”

Meanwhile, Albion boss Gus Poyet has been shortlisted in the Outstanding Managerial Achievement category for the 2012 Football League awards.

Poyet faces competition from Paul Lambert, Nigel Adkins, Malky Mackay, Dougie Freedman, Graham Westley, Lee Clark and ex-Seagull Richie Barker.

Gus should also have a good chance of winning the Manager of the Month Award for January, I would have thought?

IF you play it's not the boos you should be listening to it's the cheers from the ALBION fans

Why are Leicester favourites?
Three points behind us, and won two of their last nine in the League.
I wouldn't settle for a draw in any of our home games, as I believe they are all winnable.
The Albion are one of three clubs displaying impressive form in this division, the others being Blackpool and Brum.
We should be capable of passing most Championship sides off the park, and, (at last), translating this superiority into goals.
Certainly, Leicester should be treated with respect, but we have nothing to fear from them, or anyone else.

Passing in the right areas and in the opposition's defensive third is the key to winning games and "passing teams off the field". And finding and delivering the killer ball. We can pass all day long deep in our territory but that means diddly squat. That's what we need to improve upon. Gus says it, the stats show it.

I predict a very close game today. 1-1.

That's it in a nutshell, C'C'.
As my comment suggests, I am relying on an improved set of circumstances, rather than what has gone before.

Mattock and Reyes have got a great chance to start today. Otherwise I would expect it to be as you were.

Essential site site for all football fans, and just about anyone else.
Joe would be a Pompey player if they hadn't defaulted on the wages for January.
