Poyet plotting February success

In September and October they were Albion's seven deadly sins.

Now, after ending last month with a draw at Crystal Palace, Gus Poyet hopes to be in seventh heaven by the end of February.

The wheels fell off for the Seagulls earlier in the season with a run of games against Leicester, Liverpool, Leeds, Palace, Ipswich, Hull and Millwall.

They failed to win any of them and uncharacteristically leaked 13 goals in the process.

Tuesday's stalemate at Selhurst Park kicked off a run of fixtures against the same group of opponents but in a different sequence this time and, Poyet believes, with Albion better equipped to cope.

He said: "We look better now and on top of that we have got players coming back and a stronger squad.

"We were in a situation then where we played the two games in two days (Liverpool and Leeds) and gave everything. I would say even at Leicester we did quite well and were decent.

"It was after that, Palace the killer one and everything after. I think now we showed the other day at Palace we've clicked.

"I think in the last few games the team is back to the way we play, the way we control."

Doesn't sound like he's planning to go back to leeds, then...... except as an opposing team's manager.

He's having a laugh if he thinks we were decent at Leicester. We were completely outclassed that day. Sven's boys played us off the park and it was a miracle we were 0-0 at half-time and only lost by one goal in the end. Should be different this time though. Expect us to win tomorrow. Leicester were mad getting rid of Sven.

We were poor that day, Leicester were better but not good.

Tough game tomorrow but reckon we can shade it 2-1. Didn't realise the Amex has undersoil heating until it was mentioned on BBC Radio Sussex the other day. Not much chance of having games postponed because of the weather then. Wonder how many clubs have got that facility?

Ill take a draw right now from the Lleicester game.
They have been on TV a lot the last few weeks and it looks like their big money players have finally got their act together, they completely overran Southampton, I predict that they will get the most points in the division during the 2nd half of the season.
This is not a negative post as i also believe we will be in touching distance of the plays off at the death, i just think Leicester are the form team right now.

Albion's form is as good as their's over the past month. I see Gus has been stort listed for some award or the other for January.

I agree.
Also, unless any other club got as many points as us during January Gus will win MOT Month because that's how it is always, always given. Cup games won count as three points too. No mystery . It's the easiest 'panel' job in the world yet Kris Kamara always tries to make it sound like it is a difficult decision process. If two managers tie, they give it to the most goals scored.

I wouldn't base the rest of the season on tomorrows result, but it is a very important game to win and a big test to see how we are competing with the teams along side us.

If at some point we can string 3 wins together, it will be a great sign.

Having said that, this is true for all in the top 14.

I would like to say that with the signings and all the match practice we have had, we are looking like a team having fun and I would not be surprised on a good end to the season.

At the end of this month everything will be a lot clearer.

We are indeed Pablo, let's hope we can do what Saints couldn't, I fancy 2.0

Good positive thinking from all today. I'll go with that line and suggest the match has the potential to be an absolute cracker between two quality sides in reasonable form. Presumably, if Vokes starts, CMS should have a brace by half time... Well we can dream, can't we!

I wouldn't consider over running southampton as any kind of form marker either since they have been poor recently. The important thing is that Gus gets the team shape right. We've got the personnel. Given Mattock needs to adjust to the way we play, I'd have thought we'd start with Taricco tomorrow and either bring Mattcok on when he tires or swap Calderon over and bring Reyes on. Will be interesting to see which of Barnes or Vokes (or both) starts.

Who's using Saints as form guide ?

Like last year, a good January, if we can match our February and March results run of last season it would be absolutely fantastic.

Yeah I know.

It is a good run, but it has only made up the 4 we lost on the trot before that.

Back in the 70s I'd been ill & was staying with my sister & brother-in-law. He had a problem with wind, well, he didn't but we did! Every time he f@rted I'd yell out the name of the team we were playing that week, it happened many times an hour, many many times!! He actually told Gerry Ryan when he was visiting my nephew, his son's school and Gerry found it hilarious and told him to keep it up, but it seemed to work!

I was going to ask where i could get a pair of these lucky pants Hovite, but your comment has put me off the idea!!! The Gus Bus has certainly started to gather pace recently, lets hope for a good day out against Leicester. My 1st ever game was against them at the Goldstone, I remember it well, Gerry Ryan burst his shorts, and changed the at pitch side, right in front of me in the west stand. I never forgot the shock of seeing him in a pair of off white Y-fronts, I was so pure and innocent in those days.

Sadly, my brother-in-law is no longer with us or I'd be plying him with baked beans! Here's hoping for a 2-0 win tomorrow and CMS scoring both.

There are thousands of pairs on eBay.
'Item location' all seem to be Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
