Barnes: No slip-ups

Bad memory: Coventry send Albion to defeat on New Year's Eve Bad memory: Coventry send Albion to defeat on New Year's Eve

Ashley Barnes has urged his Albion colleagues to raise their game against the bottom team.

The Seagulls go to Doncaster on Saturday aiming for a tenth Championship game without defeat.

They have not lost in the league since a New Year’s Eve reverse at Coventry, who were bottom of the table at the time.

Despite signing several big names, Doncaster now lie 24th, although they led 2-0 at Leeds recently.

Barnes, Albion’s two-goal star against Ipswich last Saturday, said: “As long as we go with the right mindset we have a great chance.

“The fact they are bottom of the league means we have got to be even more careful because they are playing for their lives. We’re safe but we want to be in the play-offs, we are playing for that.”

Victory would take Albion into the play-off places for the first time in three months, although they might then be displaced when Cardiff play West Ham on Sunday.

Barnes added: “My target is to get as many goals as possible and help us achieve the play-offs.

“We are not getting ahead of ourselves but we want to give it a good crack and see how far we can go.”

The mentality of the squad is set fair now. Gus and the boys will not slip up on this one I am sure. The big push is underway. 3 points Saturday with a 3-1.

Ha Ha, perhaps not?! Am sure it will be close, and good game though. Will Pompey be bringing their full allocation of fans?

Er, no.

Then home to Cardiff, on Wednesday, before we even start thinking about your bunch of chancers.

Good to see that the Seagulls are not underestimating Doncaster judging from Barnes's remarks.
As this thread acknowledes, Doncaster have brought in some talented players and are obviously focused on trying to retain their Championship status. Don't forget their performance against us at the start of the season. Whilst the Doncaster squad is much changed so is BHAs.
It will be interesting to see which club has gained most.

Only if we get the cash upfront.

I hope Pompay (!) stay in business until the season's end, those three points we got at Fratton might be useful.

Pommpey fan?
I don't think so.
Doncaster and Portsmouth are only three-pointers, while Cardiff and Blackpool are six-pointers.- Far more important that we win those.
A Westham win on Sunday would be good, except for anyone who thinks top two is still on.
I hope Portsmouth find a buyer, but realistically the chances are remote.

yes results are slightly different, however we now have the bit between our teeth, we now have a strong squad, we have the support.. 24 points will be enough.. 3 this saturday.

Do we know how good we are?
We won eight League games on the bounce last March.
Of the seven sides we meet this month, only Boro' have taken three points off us, and we won five, and drew one.
I think I'd take sixteen points again right now, but how do I know we aren't good enough to win them all?

I hope they stay in business full stop. Would never wish the demise of any football club. They are part of their community and when gone they leave a big hole for genuine fans. Imagine how empty Saturday afternoons, especially in the winter, would feel if we had had lost at Hereford............

Meant to say lost at Hereford, dropped out of the league and then died which we surely would have?

Totally agree 100%. No club not even croydon deserves that fate. No true football fan could ever disagree with your post Mark5 :)

Doncaster will be tricky so a narrow win will be a great result. Cardiff is a massive game if we hope to be in play off contention so we'll really need to make some noise and get behind the team. And I hope we provide the supporters of Portsmouth our respect as we do to all those that have respected us in our times of troubles.

I think West Ham are going to find the run in tough, I reckon on Saints finishing top and West Ham slipping to a play off position.
Automatic promotion IS within our reach, and with only a slight improvement of current form, still a big ask but if we aim to win every game we play then auto promotion is what we are aiming for.

Yes a tight game, but I reckon a narrow win (1-2) at Donny.

UTA!

By the way, it's funny how in spite of everything their pish-taking club has dared to do, Pompey fans still have the nerve to give it the big one.

While in principle I would never wish a club go out of business, the fact some of their fans STILL don't get it....still don't think their bought success and current financial woes (again!) are bedfellows....and still brag about their cup 'win' makes me cringe.

Recently I've heard more fans start to state the view the rest of the country could see clear as day months ago...that Pompey are not a huge club but a middling sized one who have regularly and recklessly punched not just above their weight but several 'divisions' higher.

However, perhaps on this occasion football NEEDS them to fold in order to act as a wake up call...most of the league are trading at a regular loss, albeit (just about) manageable unlike the tax-dodgers of Hampshire.
