Dicker admits Albion were simply not good enough

Gary Dicker has admitted Albion were just not good enough at Burnley.

The 1-0 setback to their Championship play-off hopes at Turf Moor overshadowed Dicker’s comeback from a broken leg.

The Irish midfielder, back in the side for the first time since October, said: “You want to come back and try to win the game.

“I’m just happy to play obviously but the result is more important than me coming back into the team so I’m disappointed. I don’t think it was good enough.”

Dicker absolved the defence from blame as the Seagulls damaging winless away run stretched to five matches.

He said: “It’s hard for the boys at the back. I don’t think they (Burnley) created much but the one chance they had they scored.

“It’s tough for them, especially if we are not scoring at the other end. I just don’t think we were good enough. I don’t think we created enough and when we did we still didn’t take our chances.

“It was massive game for us, I think everybody knew that. We are all kind of down but we’ve got another game on Tuesday (Reading home) so we can’t sit around and feel sorry for ourselves. We’ve got to win on Tuesday.”

Our home record is better than Reading’s away record, so we should be able to go in to the game with some confidence knowing we are unbeaten at the Amex this year.

Disappointed by some fans' reaction. We are still there with a chance and you can be sure the lads will give it their all on Tuesday. I would suggest that some people take a few reality pills but given the distance we have travelled in the last couple of years with Gus I'm still rubbing my eyes in disbelief...........

Don't care if we win or lose, just turn on the style and enjoy your football. Forget about Burnley, forget about promotion, just go out and play the beautiful game the 'sexy' (south american) way.

I think Gus has learnt a massive amount this season, his idea we can play with 7 players who are not strong types has been found out, however the fact he has rebuilt the side this season, while trying to gain promotion is fantastic.. we have seen the club trying to play the "right way" and that if you can remember two and a bit years ago, we had the worst coaching staff in the country.. No scouting network and no stadium.. For gods sake win tomo and things will look mighty differently.. I dont think we are top 6 with the set up as it is.. next year will be a lot better.

Well that's it now. We will not win another game this season and looking at the remaining fixtures I can't see us even scoring another point.
Get real everybody, if we can't beat Burnley who have NOTHING to play for we have no chance against Reading, West Ham etc who have got something to play for.
Better luck next year.

Didn't like the look of the side with our 3 wingers on the bench. Attack is the best means of defence, albeit with some caution. We need to be positive against Reading and the fans will have to be at their most patient too. 3 points on Tuesday, yes.

3 points on Tuesday? You must be mad. More like the biggest loss of the season, probably 5 or 6-0. Get real WE ARE RUBBISH!!

I am so proud of everything we have achieved this season. TB, GP, MT and the entire squad have done a fantastic job. We have come along long way TOGETHER and if we stay together who knows what we can achieve. There is no pressure on us, lets go out and play our game without fear and enjoy the last five of the Season, I still fancy us for a play off place. I cannot wait for Tuesday night, lets make it an electric atmosphere!!

Idiot, stick to pruning your box hedging!
That said, I agree with Mark BTS, we are not quite good enough for the play offs this time around. We are a very good side but play off sides have that extra strength and and are more clinical in front of goal. If we do not make it (and with the Albion, who knows) then it will be because of our quality in front of goal all season which has been the stumbling block. Either way, a great season and one to be proud of, just fed up it has to end soon!!

hi agree in that forget promotion, the Amex faithfull never get on their backs so there really isnt any pressure, only that which the players put on themselves. Enjoy it give 100% and at the worst look forward to being a top four side going for promotion next year. We are all very proud of you you have superceeded 99% of peoples expectations already. Gus will be learning a lot about himself and the division over the next few weeks and will be better prepared, as would the club as a whole to challenge for automatic promotion. Downside? Stains getting promotion but hey whats the betting we are swapping places with them next year if we dont quite make it this. Come on Albion, you deserve to enjoy these last few games and teams already relegated play much better when they can enjoy it.

I agree with most comments--except Hove park etc. But if we cannot beat Burnley and convincingly, then to go up to the Premier Div and come up against man U Man City Liverpool etc and try and beat them, is a tall ask this time around. Consider this, we were never expecting to be this high up in this league and to get to where we are IS a real achievment. Lets build on this--as I am sure Gus and co feel, and try and get in one or two CLASS players in preparation for a real push next season. Rome was not built in a day, but when it was, what a beautiful place it was. Similarly, if we continue to build for the future we can then really compete in the Top League. I think BHA players, although tinged with a little disappointment if they do not get into the play-offs, can hold their heads up high and be proud of their first season at The Amex. Onwards and upwards lads.

Fingers crossed for you boys
