  • "I hope that Mattock is fit for tomorrow night since I don't think Painter is quite up to this level (I appreciate Saturday was his first game for some considerable time). I also hope Mattock joins permanently.
My main concern is midfield (not Bridcutt or Vicente) as I don't think playing both Navarro and Dicker in addition to Bridcutt and Vicente works. A statistic that worries me is that Dicker has started the last 3 games and we haven't scored a goal. I think we need to start with at least one of our three wingers.
I was surprised that neither Buckley or Vokes made the squad against West Ham. Does anybody know if either were suffering from injuries ?
A few weeks ago Poyet said he would find out which players could take the pressure of our trying to reach the playoffs. I am sure he has found the last few matches most informative in that respect and if he didn't know before where the squad needs strengthening.
Perhaps now is the time for Poyet to give youth a chance. I would like to see Agdestein, Hall and most especially JFC given a few games. In particular I would welcome the sight of JFC playing alongside Vicente.
    Any comments ?"

Mattock ready for Albion return

Marcos Painter was back at left-back at Upton Park on Saturday Marcos Painter was back at left-back at Upton Park on Saturday

Joe Mattock is back in contention for Albion’s penultimate home game of the season against Watford tomorrow night.

The left-back on loan from West Brom missed last weeks’s Amex defeat against Reading with a testicular infection.

He was not considered for Saturday’s hiding at West Ham after taking part in only one training session. Boss Gus Poyet said: “I think Joe is going to be ready for Tuesday. He trained only once so we kept him out.”

Will Buckley and Sam Vokes, surprise absentees from the 16-man squad at Upton Park, could also feature.

Albion have slipped to eighth, five points outside the play-offs with an inferior goal difference to sixth-placed Cardiff with three games left.

Poyet said: “For us it’s very easy now. We need to win the next three. If we play like Tuesday we’ve got a great chance, if we play like Saturday we’ve got no chance.”
